Film and design are two strange places to be working in at once.
Design requires you to detach yourself. To let go of your own identity, your frustrations, assumptions, and emotions, and hold someone else's. Design asks you to become the means through which someone's problems can be solved.
Film is the exact opposite. It requires you to tune into yourself. To listen closely to your instincts, memories, obsessions, fears, and questions, and give them form. It is a reflection, a shard of one's soul, made tangible.
But where I think these disciplines collide is that they are both pursuits of understanding. Design, a pursuit of deeply understanding and empathizing with others. Film, a pursuit of understanding and actualizing oneself. I believe there is something in us that pushes us toward this need to understand. It's the instinct to ask "why", the nagging feeling when an answer feels incomplete. The need to bring the hidden into the light.
And this is how I do it, in whatever fun way I can, and with the coolest people I can find. One pixel, one story, one conversation at a time.
